John – Print
I have a real life inspiration for this piece. This reminds me of the amazing day I became an Uncle for the second time. I love it. When I visit I bring colorful business cards and rides on my wheelchair. All the children in my family think it is very normal to have a disable person in their family. That is perfect.

Prowling Lion Print
Lions have such a presence. I really like painting them and showing their power and peacefulness. Those two qualities seem at odds with each other so it’s very intriguing to paint. This fellow is in motion, walking through the snow. I can imagine his muffled footsteps. His gaze is intently focused on his destination. I painted the base color with a range from yellow to blue that took me through many shades of green. Then I glazed with yellows, oranges, purples, and blues. The dark main was in shades of red and orange, then glazed with blues and purples. I chose a blue background color to reflect the icy blue of snow. You can see the original on display in the collectors home. Doesn’t it look great in that setting? Enjoy. – Donald Ryker
