This painting looks so much like my first service dog Tarella. Chin on the ground, eyes on me, this is just how she wood lay waiting to see what I needed next. The yellow vest on this dog shows it is a teenager, ready to go to formal training on it’s way to being a service dog. Notice her eyes and the connection they make.
The deep golden colors of the dog are created by under-painting with saturated colors and glazing over with oranges, yellows and reds. Purple and red glaze cover blue on the deck and give the dog shadows.
I now have my third service dog and have so much appreciation for all of the hours volunteers and professionals have spent making that possible. My life is so much better because I have this helper and companion in it. —Donald Ryker
