Golf Course - Original Art for Sale 24x24x1.75 Acrylic on Canvas

This scenic golf course wall art has beautiful views and is surrounded by towering trees casting their shadows. You can imagine looking down the fairway as you are golfing. I think one of the reasons people golf is to spend time in this kind of peaceful setting. I like the green of golf courses and the reminder of happy days that this image evokes. I have painted this scene in greens, blues, and corals, and layered many layers of glaze to create the vibrancy and depth that you see.

Description: A view down the golf course fairway surrounded by trees, looking towards spanish style architecture and a blue sky.

Growing Puppy

This painting looks so much like my first service dog Tarella. Chin on the ground, eyes on me, this is just how she wold lie waiting to see what I needed next. The yellow vest on this dog shows it is a teenager, ready to go to formal training on it’s way to being a service dog. Notice her eyes and the connection they make.

The deep golden colors of the dog are created by under-painting with saturated colors and glazing over with oranges, yellows and reds. Purple and red glaze cover blue on the deck and give the dog shadows.

I now have my third service dog and have so much appreciation for all of the hours volunteers and professionals have spent making that possible. My life is so much better because I have this helper and companion in it. —Donald Ryker

Cockatiel Fine Art Print by Donald Ryker
Cockatiel

Cockatiel by Donald Ryker

This cockatiel fine art print is from an original that was inspired by my Uncle’s love of these birds. He raised them to be tame and stand on his finger or shoulder. Each bird had a distinct personality. I have painted him in tints of blue with purple shadows and a yellow face and top-knot feathers. The foliage behind is textured and suggests flowers and berries. I really like the way his eye is so expressive.

Black Lab 2

This black lab is gazing at someone who is playing with him. He watches and waits for their next move. I painted him in green and blue and glazed with more translucent shades of blue to give depth and the sheen that these dogs have on their coat. –Donald Ryker

Bear Coming Out of the Forest

This bear is walking out of the forest and into the river. He is looking downstream. I imagine he is not alone. Often bears fish the river together and train their cubs how to scoop up salmon and other fish. The base colors on the bear were in a rainbow range of color using the blues and purples for the the deeper shadows and yellows for the parts in the light. I glazed over with colors of cream and orange then enhanced the shadows further with more blue, green and purple. I like seeing the shape and form emerge using this technique. The background was inspired by a finger painter, Iris Scott, who is making her name with bright color and texture.

Prowling Lion

Prowling Lion

Lions have such a presence. I really like painting them and showing their power and peacefulness. Those two qualities seem at odds with each other so it’s very intriguing to paint. This fellow is in motion, walking through the snow. I can imagine his muffled footsteps. His gaze is intently focused on his destination. I painted the base color with a range from yellow to blue that took me through many shades of green. Then I glazed with yellows, oranges, purples, and blues. The dark main was in shades of red and orange, then glazed with blues and purples. I chose a blue background color to reflect the icy blue of snow. You can see the original on display in the collectors home. Doesn’t it look great in that setting? Enjoy. – Donald Ryker

Crocodile

This crocodile has presence and power. He is obviously a strong and dangerous predator in his world. Painting him gave me the opportunity to evoke that ominous feeling and to be creative with reflection on water.

I chose to use tints of green with purple glaze to create shadows, and yellow for golden highlights. Swampy water obscures his reflected image so I used tints of brown staying true to the lights and shadows of his form. To create the ripple effect in the murky water I used blue glaze over saturated brown. —Donald Ryker

Blue Horse

Blue Horse is one of the first horses I painted. It reminds me of the fun I had riding horses when I was little. Being up on that horse was a whole new world. I was up high, I was moving free of my wheelchair, and I was with a warm wonderful animal. Horses always connected with me even when I was still seated in my chair. It is amazing to have that huge head come down to say hi.

I chose the blue color for the calm peaceful feeling I get from it. The sky is limitless and here is sky together with the amazing animal. Tints of dark to light phthalo blue formed the horse and purple and blue glaze give more shadow. The background was originally green, and I made it much more complex by layering red and purple. I like the simplicity of the paint on the horse and the complexity of the background colors.
